The principle of operation and types of water convectors. Water heating convector: choose wisely water heating convectors Water heating wall convectors technical characteristics
When it comes to a water heating system, we all immediately imagine radiators installed under the windows. These are traditional heating devices that we have been using for more than a century. The modern market also offers us other types of heating elements, which practically do not look like radiators. These are water heating convectors.
If we consider the design of the convector, we can say that it consists of an ordinary pipe (it can be steel or copper), on which plates made of aluminum are mounted. These plates are nothing but a surface that exudes thermal energy. The coolant, passing through the inner cavity of the pipe, heats its walls, which transfer thermal energy to the plates. And the more plates in the convector, the larger the heat transfer area, and, therefore, the higher the intensity of heat release.
All this design is enclosed in a metal case, in the upper part of which slots are made for the free passage of heated air. It's that simple. Note that the convector is connected to the heating system in the same way as water heating radiators. In this regard, there are no differences. The only difference is the fact that convectors emit heat in the form of convection flows, and radiators in the form of convection and radiation.
The internal structure of the wall convector
Advantages and disadvantages
Why did convectors suddenly become so popular, what is their secret?
- Firstly, these are very compact devices with high heat transfer efficiency.
- Secondly, they are several times cheaper than radiators.
- Thirdly, with their help, you can effectively heat the premises in the house at a low temperature of the coolant.
- Fourthly, small dimensions guarantee a small weight of the product. And this suggests that convectors, especially wall-mounted ones, can be safely hung on walls and partitions built of drywall.
- Fifthly, installing and connecting the convector with your own hands is not a problem.
- Sixth, presentable appearance.
- Seventhly, since the main materials are metals that are not susceptible to corrosion, therefore water convectors can be installed in any premises with different purposes. And even more so when it's wet.
It was not without its shortcomings.
- It is very difficult to clean the internal planes, so they are always dusty.
- Experts do not recommend using convectors in rooms with high ceilings. Efficiency drops sharply.
The disadvantages are significant. But, as an alternative to traditional devices, they can be used.
Small wall mount
Varieties
In principle, there is no classification in this category. The main difference between the models is their installation method. There are three types here:
- Wall water heating convectors.
- Floor.
- Embedded.
wall
This type of convector is one of the most popular, and most likely because they perform the functions of conventional radiators. They are installed under the windows on special brackets that are sold with them in one set. Since the standard maximum height of the wall sample does not exceed 45 cm, it is clear that their installation is due to low-set windows. But the length can be different, and this can compensate for the heat output of the device. In height, they lose to radiators, but you can pick up the device in length, thereby increasing the power of the unit.
floor standing
This type of construction is almost the same as the wall-mounted version, only it is installed on the floor under the windows. Therefore, in the design of this device there are legs and there are no brackets. The legs in this case can be removable or non-removable.
Why is a floor water heating convector needed if there is a wall-mounted sample? First, look at the photo below.
Floor convector
Currently, in the architecture of modern buildings, architects lay the so-called panoramic windows. They occupy almost the entire area of the wall, and mostly cold passes through them into the premises. How to deal with such a situation? There is only one way out - to install a floor convector. The photograph clearly shows how and where the convector is installed, what it looks like, how it fits into the interior of the room. And most importantly - pay attention to the length of the device. It can be selected based on the size of the window opening, plus, taking into account its own thermal power.
Embedded
This category includes one model - an underfloor water heating convector. This is a device that is recessed into the body of the floor base and decorated with an upper grate. It is through the latter that heat enters the room. Again, let's draw your attention to the photo below, which shows this model.
Built-in manifold
In principle, this is still the same water convector, only it has a completely different case, which is not similar to the two previous models. It is this option that is considered the most difficult to install, because under it you have to arrange a niche where the pipe wiring of the heating system is supplied. By the way, it will only be hidden here. And this again complicates the process itself.
I would like to draw your attention to the fact that this type of water convectors is practically not used in apartment buildings. Too thin concrete floor slab, which no one will allow you to hammer. This is the first. Secondly, making a screed of such a height is also not economical. This will not only reduce the height of the ceilings in the house, but also increase the load on the floor slab. Therefore, embedded structures are best used in private homes or in buildings where they are planned by the project.
Specifications
Regardless of which model of the water heating convector (heater) you have chosen as a heat source, all their technical characteristics are the same. We are not talking about dimensions here.
- They can withstand a maximum coolant pressure of up to 16 atm. These heaters can be installed in an autonomous or central heating system.
- In this case, the temperature of the coolant can reach +130°C. Convectors can be used in steam heating systems.
- Crimping pressure 25 atm.
- With all this, the case temperature does not exceed +60°С. Burning on the convector will not work.
floor convector
Attention! Experts have proven that when using conventional heating radiators, the temperature difference near the floor and under the ceiling is 6-7 ° C. When installing water convectors, this difference is reduced to 2°C. This is due to the fact that convectors emit only convection thermal energy, which evenly heats the premises along the height. This is a big plus.
As for the selection of a convector according to technical characteristics. Let's start with the fact that the choice is made on the basis of the power of the device. And in this case, the ratio of 100 W for 1 m² of heated area also applies. But this ratio is approximate. How to proceed? Many take into account the recommendations of sellers of hardware stores and make a big mistake. These sales workers are interested in sales, so they do not shine with honesty. Therefore, we recommend that you contact companies that install heaters for water heating systems and convectors, including for advice. These experts will tell you exactly which convector is better, what power is acceptable for your rooms, and even help you figure out the installation process.
The design of the water convector
Coping with the installation of floor and wall structures will be easy for any man who is more or less familiar with plumbing work. But with the intrafloor will have to tinker. So here are some helpful tips.
- The convector should be installed at a distance of 25-30 cm from the plane of the window.
- If this device is included in the main heating system, then its installation should be based on the proximity of the heat exchanger to the room.
- If it is used as a thermal curtain for a panoramic window, then the body is turned the other way around so that the heat exchanger is located closer to the window.
- When constructing a niche for a convector, it is necessary to observe large dimensions, which differ from convector ones in all directions by 1.5 cm in a larger direction.
- There are special adjusting bolts in the bottom of the case. With their help, it will be possible to set the device in height and horizontally.
- Shut-off valves and flexible supply hoses are included in the scope of supply. You should not change them for more powerful and better ones, as you might think. The manufacturer has already calculated everything, so that the additional material is fully consistent with the operating modes of the heating and the appliance.
- You can fix the heater with the help of mounting foam, and with the help of cement mortar. It's not essential.
- The installation process itself must be carried out carefully with all accuracy. The curvature of the plates is unacceptable, this can affect the quality of heat transfer of the entire device.
As a heat exchanger in a water convector, a heater is used, consisting of a copper pipe, on which aluminum fins are fixed to increase heat transfer. Fittings are provided for connection to the pipes of the heating system from the end of the convector. An air valve is provided to bleed air from the system.
The working part of the convector is enclosed in a metal case painted with powder paint. The housing has gratings or openings for air intake and outlet. Some models are equipped with a thermostat that allows you to set the desired air temperature.
Convection can be either natural or forced. During natural convection, the layers of air located in the heat exchanger zone heat up, become lighter and rise upwards, replacing the heavier cold air. He, in turn, goes down and the process repeats. For forced convection, some models have a built-in fan.
- - water or antifreeze - passes through pipes with aluminum fins and heats them;
- cold air enters through the intake grate and, passing through the heater, is heated, after which the air flows rise up;
- new portions of cold air enter their place.
Water convectors differ from conventional radiators in that they heat the air in the room faster and are able to create an effective thermal curtain. For this reason, water convectors are often placed along panoramic windows, significantly reducing heat losses, and also built into the floor along external cold walls.
Note! Unlike, water convectors heat up quickly and cool down just as quickly. During interruptions in the supply of coolant, the temperature in the room with water convectors drops rapidly.
Advantages and disadvantages of water convectors
The advantages of water heating convectors include:
- fast and efficient heating of the room;
- the possibility of creating a thermal curtain in front of windows or doors;
- small mass and small volume of coolant, water convectors can be hung on light plasterboard partitions;
- a large selection of sizes and types of execution;
- the ability to embed the convector in the floor, walls or skirting boards;
- aesthetics, convectors fit well into any design;
- the walls of water convectors do not heat up above +45 degrees, so they can be safely installed in the nursery;
- water convectors have absolute fire safety.
Disadvantages of convector water heating:
- the price of water convectors is higher than for radiators of the same heat output;
- the dimensions of wall-mounted water convectors are often larger than radiators;
- in rooms with high ceilings, water convectors may not be effective, as warm air will accumulate under the ceiling.
Note! Convection currents raise dust into the breathing zone, so in a room with convectors, it is necessary to do wet cleaning more often to ensure clean air.
Types of execution of water convectors
By type of execution, water convectors are very diverse, which allows you to install them in any room, as well as hide them in the finishing elements, for example, convectors are:
- wall;
- floor;
- intrafloor;
- plinth;
- basement.
The principle of operation of different types of convectors is practically the same, the difference lies only in the location of the gratings for air intake and outlet.
Wall mounted water convectors
In appearance, wall-mounted models are not much different from conventional radiators. They are attached to the wall with brackets, usually installed under the windowsill or on the outer, coldest wall. At the same time, it is important to observe the distances to the floor and window sill indicated in the passport in order to ensure the free movement of air flows.
Wall models of water convectors differ in thermal power and geometric dimensions, the number of heat exchangers and the material from which they are made. Additionally, wall convectors are equipped with a Mayevsky crane, control valves and a thermostat.
Floor water convectors
The convenience of floor convectors is that they can be installed anywhere without being tied to walls. Floor models are often used to heat studio apartments without internal walls. Heating pipes are located in the floor. Air intake in floor convectors is carried out from below, so it is important not to block them with furniture.
The original solution is a convector-bench, it is equipped with a comfortable seat made of wood, which does not interfere with the movement of warm air. Such convectors are installed in shopping centers and other public places, as well as in greenhouses and winter gardens. You can also install floor convectors in ordinary apartments, placing them on the floor under windows or at the front door - where they create a thermal curtain.
Floor water convectors
Floor-mounted models are often used to heat rooms with panoramic windows or for rooms made in a minimalist design. Floor convectors do not take up extra space, they can be placed in any convenient place. The body of the convector is built into a special niche in the floor, the pipes are also laid hidden. Pipe laying and a niche are performed at the stage of pouring the floor screed.
The internal volume of the heat exchanger- the most important parameter for autonomous heating systems when calculating the volume of the coolant. On average, it is 0.7-2 liters and depends on the number of pipes and the length of the device.
Limit temperature for water convectors, it is usually + 120-130 degrees Celsius, which far exceeds the permissible temperature in heating systems. At the same time, for safety of use, the maximum temperature of the device case should not exceed +60 degrees according to the passport.
Convector weight important when mounting wall models on walls and partitions made of plasterboard or other material with low strength. Taking into account the coolant, the mass of water convectors usually does not exceed 14-24 kg.
Degree of automation- a characteristic that takes into account the possibility of precise temperature control. Regulation is carried out by means of a thermostat and a valve, with their help, the amount of coolant necessary to maintain a given microclimate is supplied to the heat exchanger.
Note! When installing models with forced convection, it is necessary to ensure that the fan power supply is connected to a 220 V network.
Installation of a wall convector
All fasteners necessary for mounting the convector on the wall are included with the device. The passport must indicate the overall and installation dimensions, as well as the distances from the floor and other surfaces necessary for a particular model.
From the tool you will need:
- drill or puncher, depending on the type of walls;
- screwdriver;
- bubble level, tape measure and pencil;
- tool for cutting and connecting pipes;
- in the case of installing a device with forced convection, a power tool for connecting electrical wiring.
Before installation, release the device from the factory packaging and check the completeness of the device. Determine the installation location, taking into account the dimensions of the convector and the required distances to structures and objects.
Table 1. Installation of wall-mounted water convectors.
Steps, photo | Description of actions |
---|---|
Mark the wall with a level and tape measure. In this case, you can use the installation dimensions from the passport for the device or attach the convector to the wall and mark it in place. Also mark the places for supplying water and, if necessary, an electric cable. |
|
Drill holes according to the markup and insert dowels into them. Pipes and electric cable are brought in. |
|
The installation back of the device is applied to the wall and fixed with the screws included in the kit. The screws are not tightened to the end, with the help of the level they give the installation part a horizontal position and only after that the fasteners are fully tightened. |
|
Attach the heat exchanger to the installation part using the holders and screws included in the kit. |
|
Connect the electrical cable to the terminal box in accordance with the diagram attached to the device. If necessary, regulate the operation of the fans using the potentiometers on the board. |
|
Fittings are connected for connecting pipes: at the inlet - a thermostatic valve, at the outlet - a threaded connection. Check the tightness of the connections using an air compressor. Connect the pipes of the heating system. |
|
Assemble the body of the device: attach the frame, walls and grate. Install the thermostatic valve head. |
|
Adjust with the help of adjusting screws and the level of the verticality of the body of the device. |
|
At the first start-up of the device, loosen the air valve to de-air the system. It is usually located on the side wall of the device. When water appears, it is tightened. |
Note! Work on connecting the electrical cable to the device is carried out with the circuit breaker turned off in the input shield.
Installation of floor convector
The installation of a floor convector begins with the preparation of a niche or box in the floor. It is more convenient to perform this work when pouring the screed. To complete the niche, formwork is installed, which is removed after the concrete has hardened.
The size of the niche must be chosen according to the size of the convector body:
- the depth of the niche is equal to the height of the case plus 20 mm;
- the width of the niche is equal to the width of the body plus 60 mm;
- the length of the niche is equal to the length of the body plus 60 mm;
- distance to a window or wall - 250-300 mm.
The installation in front of the window is performed depending on the purpose of the device: when using the convector as the main heating, the heat exchanger is turned towards the room, to create a thermal curtain - towards the window.
Required materials and tools:
- drill or perforator;
- screwdriver;
- a set of keys;
- level and tape measure;
- pipe cutter;
- power tool;
- mounting polyurethane foam;
- cement mortar.
A niche is being prepared for the installation of a convector. The heating pipes and cables for connecting the fan heater are brought out from the connection side of the device.
A layer of heat and vibration insulation is laid at the bottom of the niche, while it is important to ensure that the thickness of the material does not interfere with the installation of the device flush with the finished floor.
Install the body of the device in a niche. Mounting gaps should remain on all sides of the body to allow the convector to be aligned.
Fans are placed closer to the window so that the outgoing warm air creates an effective thermal curtain and prevents condensation on the windows. Models without a fan are deployed with a heat exchanger to the window.
To align the device in height, the allen screws are located at the corners of the case. With their help, the installation of the convector in a niche is regulated using a level.
Drill holes for fastening expansion dowels near the imbus screws. To do this, use a drill or puncher.
Before fixing the box, check the installation with a tape measure and a level. The housing should be flush with the finished floor, so when checking, you need to place pieces of tile or laminate used for fine finishing under the level.
After the final alignment, the expansion dowels are fixed in the prepared holes with a screwdriver.
Mark and cut pipes for connection to the heat exchanger. A pipe cutter is used to cut pipes.
A control valve and threaded fittings for connecting to pipes are attached to the heat exchanger. Install the heat exchanger in place.
Attach the heat exchanger to the pipes with fittings and tighten them.
A Mayevsky crane is installed and air is bled from the system. To prevent water drops from getting inside the case, you can temporarily put a tube on the outlet of the air valve and lead it into any container. After the end of airing, the tube is removed, and Mayevsky's tap is tightened.
Connect the cables to the control unit, having previously removed the cover from it. All connections are made in strict accordance with the diagram attached to the device.
An electrothermal actuator is installed on a thermostatic valve, the wires coming from it are connected to the control unit.
The ends of the wires are stripped by 8-10 mm and connected to the terminal blocks. Mounting screws must be tightened to ensure good contact.
The fan speed is set at the factory, it is regulated using a block of potentiometers installed on the board in the control unit. If necessary, the rotation speed can be adjusted independently.
After connection, the control unit is closed with a lid and the fixing screws are tightened.
Install the control controller in a convenient place on the wall. The installation location must be chosen so that the controller is not affected by warm or cold air currents, direct sunlight and anything that can affect the sensor readings. Installation height - 1.5 m above the floor.
Before the final pouring of the convector, it is necessary to install spacers in the body, otherwise, when the mounting foam and mortar harden, the box may be deformed. Spacers are made from scraps of boards or plywood.
Fill the space around the box and under it with polyurethane mounting foam. It contributes to vibration damping and better thermal insulation. Wait for the time required for the complete curing of the mounting foam.
Before proceeding with the pouring of cement mortar, the edges of the box are protected with masking tape.
Fill the space between the floor screed and the box with cement mortar with a spatula or trowel, level it flush with the subfloor. After the solution has hardened, a finishing coating is laid.
Lay the decorative grille on the box. The material from which the grate is made can be different (wood, aluminum or plastic) and depends on the floor finish. If all operations are done correctly, the grate should lie flush with the finished floor.

Water heaters are an effective and economical way to create a comfortable microclimate in the house and quickly warm up the room. The devices are distinguished by a simple design and installation, and due to their aesthetic appearance, they not only heat the room well, but also fit perfectly into any interior.
Water heating convectors - design features and advantages
Rating: 607The main thing in providing year-round comfortable heat in the house is the search for equipment that combines energy savings and maximum heat transfer. The successful solution of these two components of the search is represented by the developers of the water. Consider the characteristics and how water heating convectors work.
Characteristics
The main technical characteristics of water convector equipment are:
- creating comfort and coziness in the house, due to adjustable heat;
- blocking cold air seeping through small cracks;
- optimal distribution of warm air currents in all rooms of the house;
- destruction of condensate on windows and other glass interior elements.
A complex name can mislead some consumers, and makes them think that convectors have nothing to do with heating. For a closer acquaintance with them, we propose to reveal the meaning of the word "convector".
The principle of operation of the water convector
The convection process is a concept that reflects the circulation of heat together with air, which is produced by a heat source. Heated air weighs less, so unheated air moves down, where it is also heated, due to this circulation, the result of uniform distribution of heat is achieved. This helps to avoid sudden temperature changes in the room between the floor and the level of the head of an adult.
The advantage of heating convectors:
- many variations of the style of execution of models, guarantees a successful combination with the most whimsical design solutions for houses and offices;
- ease of maintenance attracts more and more consumers;
- ergonomics of the model range is also an important point in choosing this type of heating;
- the optimal temperature regime in the building (room) is achieved in a matter of minutes, since a small amount of water is used. The use of a limited amount of heated water contributes to significant energy savings;
- a room heated by a convector method has a temperature difference between the top and bottom of only 1-2 degrees. On the contrary, the difference in temperature indicators in the heating of a room heated in the traditional way can reach 7 degrees;
- an acceptable temperature is set by adjusting the built-in thermostat, which keeps one selected temperature throughout the entire time the heater is running;
Temperature control by thermostat
- has a temperature limit of 90 degrees, unlike conventional ones, in which this value fluctuates within 30 ° -50 °. This indicator is most important for families with preschool children.
- the creation of one network of such heaters allows you to remotely control the temperature throughout the house;
- this type of device has the property of fire safety;
- the price performance of the equipment can ensure the satisfaction of the transaction of any buyer.
Types and types
Water convectors for heating are divided into types, types according to various characteristics: equipment sizes, envisaged placement, control methods, potential power indicators and others:
wall type
The advantage of wall-mounted water heating convectors is that the heating device can be hung directly on the wall, and the material from which the attachment point is made does not matter, it can even be drywall. The ergonomic design of the convector equipment allows you to use the space under the window or any other place. The compactness of the wall convector does not mean the loss of heat transfer characteristics, and is also the best solution to replace an outdated and large battery.
Water wall convectors
floor type
The appearance and arrangement of the floor-type convector, by the presence of a non-separable structure, resembles a wall-mounted one. It has a low level of heating, so any materials and household items can be placed in the immediate vicinity of it without creating a fire hazard. The heating index, despite the small size of the radiator, is in no way reduced. In a house where such a heating source works, residents will not feel dry. In buildings with an abundance of glass structures, floor convectors are applicable as an auxiliary heater.
built-in type
The built-in type of heating convector is one of the advanced technologies in this direction. The name itself makes it possible to judge the qualitatively best technological solution. The convector can be hidden behind a baseboard or in special recesses in the floor. Size and placement are also not critical to the performance of a product.
The main device responsible for heating in the design of a water convector is a pipe made of a copper alloy, aluminum plates are attached to it.
Photo of the design scheme of the water convector
The heat generation rate is higher, the larger the space between the fins.
This design is wrapped in a protective material. On top of the entire structure is a metal grill.
The temperature of the water convector is regulated by a thermostat connected to a special valve. To ensure efficient operation of the radiator, it is necessary to remove the air accumulated during downtime using a special lever. It is possible to place from 2 to 3 described heaters in one structure.

The best convectors are not those that have a brand sticker on them, but those that heat the room well. The editors of the publication have compiled a rating of the best convectors in 2017 - now everyone will definitely be hot.
What are the best convectors?
A convector is a heating device that transfers heat from a coolant or heating element to a heated room by convection.
The process, when natural convection rises, and cold air takes the vacant space, is enhanced by the design of the device.
The design of the convector, in addition to the heat source, includes a convection chamber (casing, housing). There are control systems for automatic shutdown of the convector in case of overheating or difficult air outflow. Some models are equipped with a built-in fan, which increases the air flow rate, which increases the heating efficiency.
Convectors are safe devices, simple and reliable in operation. Convectors reduce heating costs by 30-40%.
What types and types of convectors exist? Which convector is better and how to choose it is of interest to many.
Types of convectors
Water
Gas
Electrical
According to the installation method, convectors are divided into:
- universal;
- plinth;
- embedded;
- floor;
- wall.
According to the heating method, convectors are:
- water;
- gas;
- electrical.
Convection can be:
- forced (with a fan);
- natural (no fan).
Which installation type to choose?
Most often, a wall-mounted convector is chosen, since it takes up a minimum of space and is securely fixed to a vertical surface. The optimal location for the convector is under the window.
IMPORTANT! So you can create the most powerful thermal curtain, and the convector will not be too conspicuous.
The difference between a floor convector and a wall convector is the presence of special legs for installation on a horizontal surface. If we consider the advantages of both convectors, then the main thing is their ease of installation.
Large area electric convector with thermal protection and insulation. The maximum heating power is 1000 W. Most often, such models have the function of automatic shutdown in the event of a rollover.
Universal convectors can be hung on the wall, and installed in any convenient place on legs or wheels.
Built-in floor convectors are an excellent solution where the heating area is large enough.
IMPORTANT! Integrated heaters can be plinth. They can be hidden in undergrowth niches, window sills.
Leroy Merlin stores offer a wide selection of convectors, but before buying, you should think about its power.
Electric convector
Electric convector
Electric convectors for heating are characterized by simplicity of design and availability. They do not need complex piping or gas supply.
Design: a metal case with a heating element - a heating element, the surface of which is equipped with plates or it is completely fixed in an aluminum casing to increase the heat transfer surface area.
Electric convector Noirot Melodie Evolution (low) 1000
Heating process: cold air is passed through a small grill to the heating element, which heats up to a predetermined temperature value and exits through the upper blinds.
Advantages of an electric convector
- noiselessness;
- compactness;
- high efficiency;
- affordable price;
- no special maintenance required.
Cons of an electric convector
- consumes a lot of electricity;
- after operation - a decrease in efficiency;
- ineffective with a large area of \u200b\u200bthe room;
- are not suitable for the role of the main source of heating in all cases.
An electric convector with a thermostat can be wall-mounted. Both floor-standing and stationary (embedded in the floor) remain popular. A household electric convector should be selected according to the following parameters:
- type of thermostat;
- heater body;
- heater type;
- safety;
- power;
Ceramic wall convector Daewoo Electronics DHP 460
Ceramic electric convectors are based on a ceramic heating element, which ensures stable and safe operation of the device.
Advantages of a ceramic convector
- greater heating of the area in comparison with oil (with low power consumption);
- light weight and compact size;
- fit perfectly into the interior;
- have protection against overheating;
- do not burn oxygen and do not dry the air; equipped with a remote control; built-in antibacterial lamp ionizes the air;
- can be used in rooms with high humidity;
- there is an air ventilation function;
- noiselessness;
- service life up to 30 years.
Cons of a ceramic convector
- the cost is higher than oil.
Advantages of energy saving convectors:
- light weight and small dimensions;
- simple installation and convenient operation;
- using a mechanical thermostat connected to electronic thermostats, the temperature is set;
- The temperature sensor, displayed on the wall, allows you to accurately control the temperature inside the premises.
The quality of heating depends on the height of the convector - the higher the electric convector, the greater the draft and the speed of air passing inside.
Skirting convectors have low models. Their height ranges from 0.15–0.2 m. Like high ones, they have low power.
Convector on wheels
For a house, very low convectors (0.4–0.6 m) are not the best option. When choosing, you should pay attention to the length of the heater - a parameter that increases the area of \u200b\u200bcontact between the heating element and cold air. It increases the power of the convector.
The floor convector, as a rule, is narrow, long and low (only 20 cm in height), the wall convector is large (40-50 cm in height).
Fan convectors perform several functions:
- cold air is more efficiently supplied to the heat exchanger of the electric convector;
- hot air comes out faster, the heating rate and the overall efficiency of the device increase;
- the fan allows the flow of cold air to cool the body of the heat exchanger, this increases the service life of the convector.
IMPORTANT! The price of a convector with a fan is higher than usual, and it consumes more electricity.
A monolithic convector is a device equipped with monolithic elements. It is characterized by silent operation, since the body is all-metal, and ribs are considered its main elements.
They operate with little heat loss, and their efficiency and efficiency are quite high.
gas convector
Gas convector Hosseven HDU-3
Gas convectors are used to heat rooms for various purposes. The device is also used for heating rooms to which the main gas supply is connected (subject to non-permanent residence).
Directly from the cylinder - in this case, difficulties arise with the placement of cylinders, especially when there are several convectors. At the same time, it is necessary to make a gas train and a cabinet where air heating will be provided during severe cold weather, otherwise there will be problems with the fuel supply to the burner.
Gas convectors can be wall mounted with a fan.
Gas convector Alpine Air NGS-20
It should be borne in mind that it is necessary to supply gas to floor and wall convectors at a certain pressure indicated in the technical data sheet for the product. The supply of fuel from cylinders should be organized through a reducer configured for this pressure.
Convectors with a fan - improved models. Minus: continuous annoying noise in the room from the operation of the blower.
Wall convectors
Wall convector AEG WKL 1503 S
The wall convector is the heating equipment most often chosen by users. The thermostatic controller with the maximum room heating temperature saves energy, because the device will turn off when the set temperature is reached.
A wall-mounted steel convector with a thermostat maintains the optimum temperature even in a heated room. With intermittent heating in country houses, the convector will maintain a stable temperature, saving fuel for the full heating of the building.
Convectors built into the window sill reliably protect the room from the penetration of cold. They don't take up much space.
Floor convectors
Floor convector Hyundai H-HV9-20-UI650
Installation of floor convectors does not require special skills, the instructions describe the entire installation sequence.
Floor convectors are divided into several types:
- with natural convection;
- with forced convection;
- able to function in rooms with high humidity.
Floor convectors are a large body, of various lengths, depending on the power of the convector. Easily fit into any interior, often made to order.
Floor convector
In the box itself there is a heat exchanger made of copper or aluminum, which have good thermal conductivity. Once every few years, it is necessary to do internal cleaning.
IMPORTANT! Water heating convectors built into the floor are suitable for rooms and halls with panoramic glazing of the walls.
Floor convector
Floor convector Techno USUAL KVZ 200-65-800
Floor convectors are radiators built into the floor. They are water and electric.
The plinth convector is used in rooms with an individual or central heating system.
Oil, water and other liquids are used as a heat source.
Successfully replaces the traditional heating radiator. It is a device consisting of a body made of various materials. As a rule, stainless or galvanized steel is used, which has increased resistance to corrosion.
Floor convector Eva Coil-KTT80-1000
In the case there is a heat exchanger made of a copper tube bent in the shape of a horseshoe. The aluminum fins increase the surface area of the heat exchanger.
Decorative grille, mounted on top of the convector, is made of steel, wood, aluminum.
The performance depends on the temperature of the supplied coolant and the intensity of the air flow created around the heat exchanger.
They are used in various heating systems operating in a wide range of coolant temperatures - from 45 to 90°C. The built-in tangential fan, which provides an increase in the intensity of the air flow, increases the productivity and speed of heat transfer to the convector.
IMPORTANT! The underfloor heating convector should be cleaned of accumulated dust and debris before each start of the heating season.

Heating systems with classic radiators can heat a room in two ways - with the help of convection and thermal radiation. If we talk about water heating convectors, then they heat only due to natural convection, providing circulation of warm air masses in the premises. Fast and efficient room heating is achieved. What are water convectors and how are they arranged? We will talk about this in the framework of our review.
We will also look at:
- principles of operation of water convectors;
- types of devices;
- characteristics and properties of this heating equipment;
- installation principles.
After reading the material, you will receive all the necessary knowledge about these devices.
The principle and arrangement of water convectors
Classical radiators heat walls and surrounding objects, thereby heating living spaces. In order to increase efficiency, they are made with fins, due to which a convective air flow is created. As a result, the heating rate of private houses and apartments increases.. Heat is delivered to the radiators using a heated coolant - most often it is ordinary tap water. It enters the room through convection fins and in the form of thermal radiation.
The principle of convection is very simple - heated air rises, and cold air comes in its place.
Convection is good because it provides quick heating of any type of room. The heated air masses, rising to the ceiling, displace the cold air from below, forcing it to pass through the convectors. Thanks to this, the results of the heating system become noticeable literally half an hour after turning on the heating. At the same time, a classic heating battery cannot boast of similar results.
The principle of operation of water heating convectors is very simple. The coolant flowing through them heats the steel finning plates. As it heats up, it tends to rise, and the next portion of air enters in its place. The pure laws of physics work here, providing high-quality heating of residential premises. The heating procedure is carried out absolutely silently, without disturbing the household.
Some water convector heaters have built-in fans that allow you to organize forced convection in order to heat up the premises faster.
How are water heating convectors arranged? Inside them we will find:
- steel or copper pipe - coolant flows through it;
- finning - it is responsible for heating the air masses;
- connection nodes - with their help, the devices themselves are connected to the water heating system.
As you can see, there is nothing complicated in the device of this device: a heat exchanger with connection nodes, closed by a housing.
Additionally, thermostats and air vents are installed - the former allow you to adjust the degree of heating, and the latter serve to remove air from the heating system. The device of convectors is very simple, and their diminutiveness will not allow to spoil the interior of living or working premises.
The scope of water convector heaters is extremely wide. They are used for heating private households, apartments in apartment buildings, office, administrative and industrial premises. Here is a list of their benefits:
- such heating devices provide fast warm-up - in terms of warm-up speed, they outperform conventional batteries;
- high efficiency - the heaters themselves give off more than 95% of the incoming heat to the air masses;
- compactness - due to their small size, these heaters can be used in rooms with panoramic windows without spoiling the appearance.
This is a universal heating equipment for any premises.
Maintenance of heating convectors is very simple - they must be periodically cleaned of dust that accumulates on the finning elements. This is where a vacuum cleaner with good suction comes in handy. Outside care is reduced to a simple removal of dust with a damp cloth. Internal cleaning is carried out at least a couple of times a month, which prevents the accumulation of a large amount of pollution.
Lack of proper care for heating devices will lead to the accumulation of a large amount of dust - natural convection will spread it throughout the room, which will not add to the health of allergy sufferers.
Types of water convectors
Now we will talk about the most interesting thing - about the types of convector heaters on the water. On sale are:
- floor models - they are mounted on the floors;
- wall models - the most popular and common variety;
- plinth models - an innovation in the modern heating market;
- floor - devices for hidden installation in floors;
- plinth models - devices for embedding in walls, niches and even stairs.
Consider all types in more detail.
Floor convectors
Floor convectors are often used in rooms with panoramic windows. In this case pipes for supplying hot coolant are laid in the floor. Installation of heaters is reduced to their fixing and connection to the heating system. Using the lowest and most compact models, you can achieve an ideal view from the window and high-quality space heating.
Underfloor water heating convectors are considered as an ideal solution for cinemas, exhibition pavilions and other buildings with high floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows.
Wall convectors
Wall-mounted convector heaters on water are characterized by minimal thickness and compactness. In size, they resemble electric convectors or conventional batteries. High models are installed under ordinary window sills, and miniature varieties of small height are suitable for windows with low window sills. Due to their design, they provide efficient heating. In addition, they can be installed along blank walls.
Wall-mounted water convectors are used to heat premises for various purposes - these are ordinary living rooms, offices, industrial buildings, shopping malls, warehouses and much more. They do not clutter up the space and provide a soft and almost imperceptible circulation of heated air. For designer interiors, devices with decorative trim are produced.
Skirting heating convectors are a comparative innovation. They are miniature and designed for installation of baseboard heating. Their advantages:
- uniform heating of the air over the entire height of the room;
- extremely compact dimensions;
- high heating efficiency.
Despite their miniature size, floor heating devices warm up living spaces well, creating a comfortable atmosphere.
Floor convectors
Underfloor heating water convectors will be a godsend for those who want to create the most hidden heating system. As their name implies, they are recessed directly into the floors, where special niches are created for them. Pipes are laid there, through which the coolant circulates. One floor water convector of a large width will provide high-quality heating and will not spoil the interior with its appearance - you can guess the presence of such a heater only by a masking grate in the floor.
Where are floor water convectors used? They are indispensable for installation in rooms with panoramic windows - unlike low floor devices, they do not block the view from the windows, even partially. Being completely recessed into the floor, convector heaters do not interfere with the movement of people, so they can even be installed in doorways, creating a barrier to cold air flows.
Underfloor heating convectors are indispensable in interiors that are subject to increased requirements for finishing. These can be exhibition halls, concert halls, museums and other places where heaters sticking out of the floors or their wall-mounted counterparts would be inappropriate. They are also used to heat private houses - the absence of visible elements of heating systems allows you to create interesting interiors.
Ground convectors
Another novelty in the world of heating equipment is basement water convectors. They are relatives of floor devices, as they are designed for flush mounting. Their installation is carried out in small niches, in walls, in stair steps, in partitions between rooms. Basement convectors allow you to create an invisible heating system that is highly efficient. They will be an excellent choice for those who want to create an exclusive interior in which heating devices will not be found.
Basement heating convectors require connection to the electrical network. Electricity is needed here to rotate fans that create forced convection. In order to make them less noisy, manufacturers use low-noise fans. Thanks to this, they can work even at night without creating discomfort for the household.
Features of choice
The selection of suitable convector heaters begins at the design stage of the heating system, as well as when building a house. If you plan to use panoramic windows, take a closer look at floor convectors and provide niches for their embedding. In other cases, you can get by with wall models, placing them under windows and along blank walls. Another option for almost concealed heating is skirting convectors, which have minimal dimensions.
In order to correctly select the power of a convector heater, simply multiply the area of \u200b\u200bthe room by 100, the resulting number will be the required power in Watts.
The required thermal power is calculated in the same way as in the case of conventional radiators, based on 100 W per 1 sq. m. As for the choice of the country of the manufacturer, then there are some nuances - devices manufactured in Russia are characterized by an optimal combination of price and quality. Foreign equipment is of better quality, but also expensive. As for China, an individual approach is needed here, since the quality of Chinese products is unpredictable.
Manufacturers of water heating convectors from Russia - TZPO, Breeze, KZTO Radiator, Konrad, Varmann, Isotherm, NBBK, Vilma and Technoheat.
Installation of water convectors
When installing water heating convectors, it is necessary to take into account the distance to the floors - there are holes at the bottom that must be open. The optimal distance to the floor covering is 20-25 cm. The gap between appliances and window sills varies from 10 to 30 cm. It is also necessary to take into account a small gap between the back wall and the wall of the building - just leave 5 cm.
If possible, be sure to lay heating pipes in the floor, then the heaters themselves installed later will look much more aesthetically pleasing.
The pipe connection depends on the model of the selected convectors - it can be side or bottom. Depending on this, we lay pipes that will come out of the walls or floors. The latter option is more preferable, since it becomes possible to almost completely hide all the pipes - such a scheme turns out to be more accurate.
Convectors are installed in a strictly horizontal position- the correct installation is controlled using the building level. Also, do not forget about the reliable fixation of the equipment so that it does not come off under its own weight. When performing installation work, you must be careful and avoid physical stress on the convectors in order to avoid their breakdowns.
We create niches for floor and basement convectors - they are provided for by the construction plan. Pay attention to the fact that the dimensions of the niches are 3-4 centimeters larger than the dimensions of the devices themselves. You should also leave a gap for more convenient connection of equipment. After laying the floor material, the underfloor heaters are masked by a decorative grille, from which warm air will rise.
