Independent production of a sliding wardrobe will require not only the installation of a frame made of aluminum profiles of the selected configuration, but also the installation of filling fragments - inserts from MDF, glass (mirror), plastic, plywood. It is these panels or mirrors that will give the door the intended decorative effect.
The inserts should ideally fit the design of the door frame so that they do not hang out, rattle, or warp. Often they are ordered in specialized companies in order to achieve ideal dimensions when cutting on special equipment. But, in principle, if you have a quality tool, you can make them yourself. However, in any case, you need to know the exact dimensions of such inserts, literally - up to a millimeter. Calculators for calculating the size of filling fragments for wardrobe doors will help with this.
All calculations are carried out for the most popular profiles among the masters of the ARISTO system or its exact analogue. Calculation explanations are given below.
Beautiful wardrobe with lighting and additional side shelf
When buying a new home, moving, redevelopment, or just when you want to update the design of the apartment, we always think about what kind of furniture to choose so that it is comfortable, beautiful and functional. Of course, when considering options, we also rely on the dimensions of the future sofa, table or shelf. Everyone wants the furniture in the apartment to take up as little space as possible, especially if the area of the room does not allow you to purchase exactly what you like visually.
Closet. built into the niche of the room
A wardrobe for clothes, linen, personal belongings is very necessary in any room. It is suitable for storing everything that is used daily or periodically, saving objects from dust settling, pollution from household liquids. Many of us, when we hear the word wardrobe, first of all, the image of a familiar design with mezzanines, glass doors and drawers comes to mind. Such furniture can be quickly bought in the store, simply by voicing the dimensions to the seller, choosing the color, as well as the type of product. As practice shows, suitable products are not always sold.
A dressing room hidden behind sliding doors allows you to make optimal use of the area and hide everything from prying eyes
A novelty has recently appeared on the furniture market that has won the love of buyers, devoid of many of the shortcomings of a conventional wardrobe equipped with hinged doors that block the exit, entrance or space when they are opened. The sliding wardrobe can be built into a niche, which is provided for in the construction of many apartments and often causes confusion about how to use it without spoiling the integral image of the living space.
Mirror wardrobe for the corridor
Such a cabinet can be installed in the bathroom, bedroom, living room, kitchen, hallway, visually increasing the space due to, for example, mirrored doors. Its huge plus is the unlimited size (length, width, depth and height). Below we will consider the rules for the correct calculation of this type of cabinets.
Sliding wardrobe for the living room with a beautiful landscape on the doors
Having chosen a place for installation, having sketched out a sketch by hand, we begin to calculate and draw the initial design of the structure. All objects that are in close proximity or in contact with the structure are taken into account, distances, thickness of materials are measured, wall irregularities are taken into account. An obligatory condition for the successful installation of the cabinet is the measurement of corners. There must be one hundred percent certainty that they are straight (90%).
Sliding wardrobe with dimensions and description
A standard sliding wardrobe consists of a roof, sidewalls, partitions, bottom, ceiling, plinth, doors, rear wall and internal filling (shelves, modules with drawers, holders for belts, pull-out baskets, hangers, shoe racks, etc.). The dimensions of all parts must be taken into account during the preparation of the product project.

We calculate the dimensions of the cabinet
For the initial calculation, we need to determine L - the height of the opening and B - the width of the opening
The first stage of cabinet design - marking
- Height. The main rule to follow is not to rely only on the parameters of the walls. Why? Contact with the ceiling will not allow the sliding wardrobe to stand in the desired position. This is a rather massive structure, which is usually assembled horizontally and installed vertically. Therefore, the most important value for calculating the correct size is its diagonal, the length of which is usually less than about 10 cm of the height of the back wall. Here it is better to use the formula √ (a²-b²) = x. For example: 2700 (distance from floor to ceiling 2700 mm) x 27 = 72900 (a2); 50 (cabinet depth 50 mm) x 50 = 2500 (b2); 72900 - 2500 = 70 400. We extract the root (use the online calculator) of 70 400, we get 265.32. We round up to 265. In total, the height of our product is 2650 mm.
- Depth. Here it is worth mentioning right away that it is better to make this parameter at least 550 mm in size, and preferably 650 mm or more, since the standard length of the hanger rod is 450 mm, so your clothes, especially voluminous down jackets and fur coats, should feel comfortable in such cramped conditions. It is worth clarifying that the depth is chosen completely different, based on your preferences and the dimensions of the room.
- Width. Everything is much simpler here. We measure the internal dimensions of the opening, subtract 16 mm from this size (chipboard thickness), we get the mounted opening values.
The main parameters of the wardrobe

In this case, the main thing is to avoid the mistakes made during self-installation of the sliding wardrobe.
- The parameters of one sash should not exceed 2800 x 1200 mm.
- Do not make very narrow doors.
- It is important to take into account the overlaps of the canvases.

Width calculation. When determining the length of the web, subtract 40-45 mm from the height of the opening (required suspension distance). To the width of the opening, add the length of the overlap in millimeters and divide by the number of doors. For example, 1584 mm + 26 mm / 2 = 805 mm (single width).

Detailing drawers for the wardrobe
Drawers are a very important and practical filling of the wardrobe. To determine the boundaries of the box, it is necessary to take into account the data of all its details: the facade, bottom, sidewall, back wall and guide.
- Facade. The size of the opening should be 4 mm more than the width of the facade. The height is chosen arbitrarily. Be sure to leave a groove in the facade for attaching the handle.
- Bottom. When determining the dimensions of the bottom of the cabinet, it is necessary to decide whether it will be nailed or inserted into the grooves. Using the latter method, it is important to consider the thickness of the material and the depth of the groove.
- Sidewalls. Their length is a multiple or slightly more than the length of the guide. The height of the side walls and the rear wall of the box is equal to or less than 40-50 mm of the height of the facade.
The size of the box affects all the parameters of the drawer: its width, depth and height
Methodology for calculating materials and components
A table must be drawn up, which indicates a list of all the details of the outer box and the inner filling (accessories, fasteners, handles) indicating their size and quantity. There are several tens or even hundreds of such details, depending on the configuration of the cabinet. Be sure to take into account the thickness of the edge, as well as the name of the material for each part. You can use this data later, calculating the cost of the cabinet.
An example of filling a three-door wardrobe with an ironing board and a vacuum cleaner
To cut chipboard, a list of parts with dimensions is enough, with which you contact the sawing workshop, select the material there and order the manufacture of blanks for your cabinet.
Scheme of a 3750 mm wide cabinet with detailed measurements
When calculating materials and components, gaps and indents cannot be neglected.
- The height of the plinth can be up to 100 mm.
- Gap on each side of the drawer front from 1.5 mm.
- The internal filling of the product should be approximately 10 cm smaller than the outer casing.

Approximate calculation of the cost of a wardrobe, depending on the configuration
Having on hand a table with a list and quantity of all the necessary parts and materials, in the last column we write the cost of each item, focusing on the price in the store. Here it is necessary to pay special attention to the cutting of parts in a chipboard sheet (its structure, kerf width, overall values, which should be taken 20 mm less than the required parameters).
An example of calculating the price of a wardrobe in the CupeCalc v1.0 program, built on the basis of Microsoft Excel using VBA macros
By square meters, parts from sheet fabric, various inserts, for example, mirrors, are calculated. For clarity, let's take the bottom of the structure, made of chipboard. As a basis, we take the cost of the sheet per square meter, the required width and length of the bottom (chipboard: 1100 rubles / m²; bottom: 1.5 m x 2 m = 3m² x 1100 rubles = 3300 rubles.) Long materials, such as plinth, are considered per linear meter, and do not cause any particular difficulties in assessing. Handles, latches, fasteners are considered individually.

Video: Sliding wardrobe. Correct dimensions and calculation
By following our instructions, you can correctly calculate the sliding wardrobe with your own hands. This work is not as difficult as it seems at first glance, so even a novice furniture assembler can do it.
We will proceed from the fact that you already have a ready-made drawing made by yourself in a graphic editor, which determines the number and method of attaching various parts. When compiling a wardrobe model, you should consider what the thickness of the material and edges will be. This factor is very important, especially for the calculation of boxes.
We calculate the dimensions of the cabinet and its filling
To clearly demonstrate how the calculation is made with our own hands, we will simultaneously show an example for a cabinet two-door cabinet, the dimensions of which are as follows:
- height - 2200mm;
- width - 1600mm;
- depth - 600mm.
We will use aluminum Alutech as a sliding system, we will choose a C-shaped profile shape. Of the two doors, one will be made of laminated chipboard, the second will be mirrored. The wardrobe will have two separate sections, one for a clothes hanger, the second will accommodate shelves and drawers.
The first thing we need to do is prepare a drawing, where we will enter the dimensions obtained as a result of the calculation.
We calculate the height for the side stand as follows: [closet height] - [roof thickness]. Considering that the standard thickness of a chipboard sheet is 16mm, in our case the result will be 2184mm (2200-16).
The sidewall will be the same width as the depth of our cabinet, that is, 600mm.
To calculate the bottom of the structure, it is necessary to subtract the thickness of the two sidewalls from its total width, we will get 1568mm (1600-32).
As for the length of the base, its size will be equal to the length of the bottom of the structure (1568mm). Its standard height is 60mm. Note that it will not be possible to make a lower height, due to the peculiarities of the operation of the edge banding machine.
To make it more convenient to calculate the opening where the shelves and drawers will be located, we will make it a multiple of 50mm. Considering that the section in which the boxes are located must be moved away from the center by a distance of 50 to 70 mm, we will make its width 600 mm. In this case, the boxes will not touch the door and the pile seal glued on it.
The formula for calculating the internal rack will be as follows: [cabinet height] - [podium height] - [cabinet roof thickness], for us it will be 2108mm (2200-76-16).
We calculate the depth of the internal shelves and the rack: [cabinet width] -100mm (for a sliding door system), we will get this value equal to 500mm.
Based on the fact that the width of the section for drawers and shelves is 600mm, we calculate for the second compartment: [cabinet width] - [thickness of two outer rack] - [width of the drawer section] - [thickness of the internal partition]. Having entered all the values, we get 952mm.
Calculation of drawers for the cabinet
When calculating the front of drawers, it is necessary to subtract from the width of the opening from 4 to 6 mm for space for gaps, while gaps in height will be enough 3 mm. It is also necessary to take into account the PVC edge along the perimeter of the facade, it can be 1 or 4 mm (minimum and maximum value).
To make it more convenient to calculate the sidewalls of the boxes, we will make them a multiple of 50mm, we will get 450mm. The height of the enclosing sides should be made less than the facade by 40 or 50 mm. That is, if we made the facade 200mm, then the side skirts will be 160mm. We calculate the back of the boxes as follows: [opening width] - [guide thickness] - [box sidewall]. We get 542mm (600-26-32).
For the bottom of the boxes, which we make with our own hands, we choose the DVPO material. The bottom can be nailed from below, or special grooves are made for its installation. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the thickness of the material (usually 4 mm) and the depth of the groove, it can be 5-8 mm. In our case, we decided to make the bottom stuffed, respectively, its size is 570x446mm.
The clothes hanger is made of chrome-plated pipe, we took the Joker system with a section of 25mm, equipped with two flanges for fastening.
Considering that the clothing section has practically no shelves to stiffen the structure, it is necessary to make a screed in the center of the opening. Its width will be the same as that of the opening (952mm), and its height will be 200mm.
The parameters of the lid on the closet correspond to the width and depth of the structure, sometimes a small visor is made for illumination. What form it will be does not matter. In the event that you plan to install a backlight, it is enough to increase the depth by about 150mm.
The back wall is made of DVPO, as a rule, it is made stuffed. Considering that the standard sheet size of this material is 2750x1220mm, a one-piece construction will not work. Therefore, the wall is recruited from two pieces.
No. Item name Width (mm) Length (mm) Quantity (pcs)
We calculate the doors to the closet
We chose Alutech aluminum profile, MS120 form, its parameters are specified by the manufacturer. Necessary calculations:
sliding doors to the sliding wardrobe are installed on the opening 2108x1568mm;
the upper and lower guides will be long - 1568mm;
the vertical profile will be height: [opening height] - [side profile height], we get 2063mm (2108-45);
door height and width 2003х762, height = [vertical profile height]-, width = [door width] - ;
Height and width of the mirror for the sliding wardrobe door 2001×759, height = [vertical profile height]-, width = [door width]-.
The above calculations are quite enough to make a sliding wardrobe with your own hands.
The calculation of facades is a rather important procedure, because they are the face of the finished product, and in some cases (for example, facades made of MDF), something can not be changed if an error occurs.
In this article I will try to explain how the calculations are made for all the main types of furniture facades (with the exception of radius ones). We will disassemble on the basis of a box with external dimensions of 600 x 300 mm.
So, let's start with swing facades. In order for the doors to open, it is necessary that they do not rub against each other and against the body; technological gaps are provided for this.
They are 2-4 mm (more - they look ugly, less - they rub).
Personally, I prefer to make gaps of 2 mm.
Separately, I note that the dimensions must be considered for each module separately, that is, if you are assembling a kitchen in which there are 3 floor drawers and 3 hinged ones, then the dimensions must be considered for each drawer separately, that is, 6 times - so you insure yourself against a number of possible mistakes.
front width calculated by the formula:
w =(W/n)-3 mm
where w- front width W- box width n- number of facades (in width)
Some furniture makers subtract 4 mm each, but in my opinion the gaps are too large.
facade height. When calculating the height, there are no clearly derived formulas - you should be guided by common sense and some simple subtleties.
For example, let's calculate the dimensions of the facades for several kitchen modules.
red box dimensions are marked in color, blue - gaps orange - the dimensions of the facades.
So, the dimensions of the box are 730x450 mm
We calculate the width using the formula (450/1) -3, we get 447 mm. (from the sides, gaps of 1.5 mm are obtained, which will allow you not to cling to neighboring cabinets, which will have the same allowances).
In terms of height, we decide to make 3 facades of which 2 are large, 300 mm each. We take into account that the optimal distance between adjacent boxes is 2-3 mm , and between countertop and top front 5 mm (so that the facade does not cling to the drip tray, which has a place on kitchen worktops). As a result, subtracting these values from the height of the box, we get the height of a small facade of 121 mm
730mm - 300mm - 2mm - 300mm - 2mm - 5mm=121mm
Let's move on to another example: the calculation of facades for a hanging pedestal. Its feature is the presence of two hinged facades, as well as an overhang of the upper horizon, which, as it were, covers the doors, giving the entire pedestal a finished look.
Based on the overall dimensions of the cabinet: 636 x 600 mm, we calculate the width of the facades. (600/2)-3 = 297.
Knowing that the thickness of the upper horizon is 16 mm, and making a 3 mm gap between it and the facade, we get the height of the facade (636-16-3) = 617
Now let's move on to individual subtleties of calculation.
1. When calculating the dimensions of facades made from chipboard, edged with a 2 mm PVC edge, do not forget to subtract another 4 mm from the dimensions, both in height and in width (edge thickness on both sides)
2. When calculating the dimensions of swing facades for corner cabinets it must be borne in mind that there are two types of corner loops (+45, +30 gr). Visually, they do not differ from each other, the difference is noticeable only on the assembled case with a hinged facade. Therefore, the mounting scheme of the corner hinges that you purchase should be checked with the seller.
Let's analyze the calculation for each using the example of a corner pedestal with a distance between the walls (in the front opening) of 300 mm.
So, option 1 facade turns out loose its size should be 1 mm less than the width of the niche, that is, equal to 299 mm.
