So which is better: War Thunder or World of Tanks? What is better Tanks War Thunder or World of Tanks War thunder or world of tanks comparison
We will try to compare these two games, evaluate their advantages, disadvantages and differences between them.
Let's make a reservation right away that the comparison of these two games is an exclusively subjective opinion of experienced players and does not pretend to make a final verdict on them. It may turn out that you do not agree with some of the conclusions.
The games presented are very different in nature, but a lot of players are trying to figure out if it makes sense for them to play one of them or the other, and under what circumstances. So let's get started with the comparison.
1. Which game is less demanding on hardware power?
Let's look at tank landscapes first
Let's start with World of Tanks. The parameters are set to maximum, but players may be confused by the fact that the game lowers FPS. In our case, FPS is from 45 to 60 on average, sometimes it jumps up to 70, but this is more an exception than the norm. The game drops to 45 frames per second, which is not optimized enough, despite the fact that the graphics in WoT in general make a good impression.
We also look at War Thunder at maximum graphics settings. Excellent textures of trees and the surrounding area, FPS keeps around 70, although sometimes it drops to 60. Therefore, to play War Thunder it is better to have a powerful computer with a serious video card.
Aircraft
We launch the aircraft version of World of Tanks - World of Airplanes. On average, the picture keeps the FPS at 70 frames, sometimes it jumps up to 90, the usual FPS value is 70-80.
Now War Thunder. On average, the game keeps the FPS at 90, sometimes it rises to 100-110 frames. The graphics are well drawn (especially the textures of the waves).
Conclusion on resource intensity : War Thunder is a less demanding game than World of Tanks, so if you have a weak computer that does not have enough FPS for a normal game, try War Thunder, your computer may be able to handle it at minimum settings.
2. Gameplay
Let's see the gameplay of World of Tanks. It boils down to the following: the game has heavy, medium and light tanks, anti-tank guns and artillery that supports everyone it can support at a great distance. Anti-tanks are powerful weapons that allow you to fire and hold tight corridors well. Light tanks are designed to destroy artillery and other light tanks. Medium tanks destroy the lungs and have enough dynamics to go behind enemy lines. Heavy tanks have the main weight, armor and a powerful top gun.
The task of light tanks is to "shine", to make the enemy appear on the radar screens. I must say, this is not much fun, especially when you play in a team, you want to shoot, and you are offered to “shine” your opponents. Especially when enemy tanks are 2 ranks higher than you, you can't do anything to them.
The main task in World of Tanks, especially if you play as a light tank, is to hide behind rocks, drive out, drive over obstacles and try to destroy the enemy. You often have to play in this way, because. with a significant number of allies from yours and rivals - on the other hand, you always run the risk of falling under distribution, when, with careless maneuver in open areas, 3-5 shells from the enemy can hit you.
The screenshot shows that we took a position behind a block of stones, we are attacked by opponents several times superior to our tank class. In such an environment, we have practically no chance of survival. Thus, the whole game is built like this: hid - shot, hid - shot again. What could be wrong in our case? We think it's a small map. When 30 tanks are playing in a relatively small area, it is difficult to avoid tank crowds.
Let's move on to War Thunder. The game offers us to choose the type of game, there are three of them: arcade, realistic and simulation.
Simulation battles are the most difficult: battle conditions are as close as possible to real ones.
Realistic battles are similar to arcade ones, with the exception that there are differences in the physics of aircraft flight, tank movement and damage: aircraft and tanks are destroyed faster.
Arcade battles are the simplest mode, the physics is simplified and more inherent in the arcade than in real battles, respectively, the tanks and planes in the arcade are more tenacious.
Let's see the gameplay in War Thunder for tanks. Tanks have no lives, all you have is your tank in the lower left corner, depending on the damage received, the tank will take on different color forms. In terms of tank damage: you can be destroyed with one shot, or you may not be killed with 10 shots - this is a complete accident, how lucky. The physics of tank-to-tank collisions is a bit lame: you can't kill a tank in a collision. However, tank battles in War Thunder really do feel like real tank battles. The fights are really thought out with an emphasis on realism.
Separately, I would like to note the physics of the movement of the tank. You can calmly accelerate, turn around sharply and drive into the enemy flank. There is no such movement physics in World of Tanks - there you will not be able to drive fast, then slow down with one track and turn sharply to the right (or left).
Let's look at the dynamics of the shootings. In War Thunder, it is necessary to take into account the trajectory of the bullet, i.e. take a little ahead of the curve. In arcade mode, they will show you what lead you need to do in order to hit (usually marked with a white plus sign). In realistic battles, you will have to look for lead yourself, and the further you go, the stronger the lead. The inability to damage a tank when ramming, in our opinion, is implemented correctly in War Thunder, in real clashes no normal tanks will ever push, they will only shoot.
Gameplay summary: if you want to play, relax in the arcade battle mode, World of Tanks will be a great choice. If you are interested in realistic tank battles, it is better to play War Thunder.
Tanks in War Thunder were inaccessible to most players for a long time and were the lot of the elite: to play tanks, you had to buy an expensive tank pack, or go through difficult tasks and become one of the lucky ones invited to CBT. Hello dear friends and those who read this comparison. Today I would like to tell you more about one game that is rapidly gaining popularity, and which, according to many influential game critics, can completely unsettle world of tanks in the MMoRPG genre where battles take place on vehicles that were used in World War II. As you probably already guessed, this is exactly the game - War Thunder. Many already know about it, and many players have already tried it. But if you are someone who has not yet played this great game, then this article will be of interest to you!
For the very beginning, we need to talk about the game War Thunder. War Thunder is a next generation military MMO game that focuses on combat aircraft, armored vehicles, as well as the navy during World War II. In this game, you will have the opportunity to take part in all game battles, as well as fight with all players around the world.
In War Thunder, a lot of time was devoted to a variety of military equipment, different capabilities and the development of the player himself. You will fly on a large number of aircraft. And when you find yourself inside a beautiful cockpit with many details, you will be able to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of those times and you will feel how it is to fly in real life, swim in water and ride on land.
But, as you understand, aviation does not play a big role in war, so War Thunder will also have a lot of ground and naval equipment. You will have the opportunity to fight not only one with the other, but also try to complete many exciting game missions with your friends. Also, many PvP modes are waiting for you, where large-scale battles will take place, there will be a sufficient number of game modes, among which you can especially designate such as: Dynamic Campaign, Separate Missions, Mission Editor and other modes.
And by the way, for the game you do not have to pay money. But you understand that there will be things in the game that can only be purchased for game currency, it seems like in the WoT game. But you know that no one has the right to force you to make a purchase. You can play well without the premium that other players have.
A very good big plus in the game is its excellent graphics, which WOT cannot boast of, as well as the destruction damage system, which is completely realistic (this is also not in WOT). Authentic sounds and beautiful orchestral music, the referral system has a lot of development, because of which you, as well as your friends, will be able to receive fairly acceptable bonuses.
Watch the video below to find out what this game is.

The main plus of the game is that you can fight on different types of military equipment. This is exactly the new world where there will be many good gaming opportunities.
If you have played War Thunder yet, download it right now! Apart from the fact that the game is now at the OBT stage, it is already possible to understand that the game will be serious when it comes out. Using the link below, you can register in the game, and also write in the comments about how you compare with the World of Tanks game. Good luck fighting in both games!
The holy war has been going on for months now. A war, each battle of which is tougher and more merciless than the previous one. In these battles, legions of knights converge, dressed in rolled homogeneous armor. They don't know mercy. Their fighting spirit does not dry out, and faith in their cause is not questioned. And the hatred that flashes in their eyes at the sight of an enemy banner - a red root crop on a black background or a green snail on a white tundra background, will be envied by a horde of orc berserkers.
As you may have guessed, my article will focus on two competing projects dedicated to tank battles of the mid-20th century: War Thunder and World of Tanks. I will try to be as impartial and objective as possible to compare these two games. Well, whether I succeed or not is up to you.
Graphic arts
The visual component of War Thunder is certainly more impressive. Here, the tanks are worked out to the smallest detail: the glass periscope really looks like a glass one, the gun barrels are round, not polygonal. Gun shots, exhaust fumes and the flames that engulf the wrecked cars make you believe that the actions taking place on the screen are real. Plants are like themselves: bushes are not pieces of green cotton wool, and trees are not like matches.
The grassland sprites are also surprising in their diversity and liveliness. Lighting creates the effect of presence, which the developers of World of Tanks have not yet been able to achieve. The shadow casts everything from every leaf on the trees to the towline folded on top of the tank. Does War Thunder graphics have any flaws? Unfortunately, without them, nowhere. The developers tried to create a picture as close to reality as possible, and in the pursuit of detail, they forgot that an image oversaturated with details is perceived by a person much harder.
That is why when playing WoT, where the picture is full of conventions, what is happening on the screen is perceived much better. There are fewer objects in the player's field of view, they are graphically simpler, but not at the expense of beauty. Soft lighting creates a unique atmosphere, sharp shadows do not distract the player from the battle. Still, for three years the developers did not sit idly by, and from a not very promising engine they were able to squeeze out something that its creators themselves probably did not suspect.
Outcome. The graphics in WT are made at a higher level, more realistic and make you believe what is happening on the screen. WoT graphics lack these advantages, but boasts ease of perception and its special beauty, which does not interfere with receiving information about the course of the battle.
Physics
The way the car that we control in the virtual world behaves, of course, greatly affects our perception of the gameplay and the level of realism of the game. And in this matter, the developers of War Thunder outperformed their competitors. From the first seconds of the game, I felt that I was driving a massive tank, and not a 3D model with given movement characteristics. The developers achieved this by accurately conveying the mass of tanks and how they respond to controls.
In World of Tanks, vehicles move with perfect traction across a map filled with seemingly insurmountable and insurmountable obstacles. In War Thunder, you never know what an attempt to drive through a dense forest will turn into, and when driving at high speed on uneven terrain, an attempt to turn a tank can bring an unpleasant surprise. With a sudden stop, the tank will not instantly freeze in place, but will drive a little by inertia and will sway slightly. It is these little things that make you believe that the player controls a tank, albeit virtual.
Note. I did not mention the behavior of small parts of cars (for example, antennas) and the movement of the suspension when overcoming uneven terrain. This is due to the fact that the developers of World of Tanks announced that this side of the physical models of tanks will be seriously reworked. This gives every reason to believe that this aspect of game physics in both projects will be at the same high level.
Outcome. The physics of tanks in War Thunder is much better than in World of Tanks, where the feeling of unnaturalness of what is happening does not leave the player while driving a tank.
Sound
If you watch a War Thunder gameplay video, it will seem to you that you are listening to a recording from a real tank. Everything makes sounds in WT. Caterpillars clang, the engine rumbles, the gearbox clicks, the gun rumbles, falling shells ring, crumbling soil rustles.
The sound in World of Tanks is disappointing. The monotonous and "dead" sounds of engines and shots put a lot of pressure on the ears, and sooner or later they have to be turned off.
Outcome. The sound in WT is made at the highest level. Sound in WoT needs serious improvement.
Gameplay
So we got to the assessment of the most important component of the game. After all, if the game is boring and it is not interesting to play it, then what is the use of a beautiful picture? In terms of addictiveness and quality of gameplay, World of Tanks is definitely in the first place. For three years, the developers were able to hone the initially successful concept of the gameplay almost to perfection. The transparency and clarity of the principles of game mechanics allow players with developed analytical and spatial thinking to achieve very high results. The ergonomic interface and the simplicity of the game concept provide a low entry threshold for players with low capabilities. Thus, WoT is equally attractive both for players with high demands on the result (cybersportsmen, for example) and for a wide audience.
The gameplay of War Thunder is undoubtedly very high quality. A carefully crafted damage model, more realistic game mechanics that allow you to imagine what real tankers felt on the battlefield - all this makes an indelible impression on the player. However, this gameplay is not for everyone. Players who are focused on winning and achieving high results will not find this game a suitable platform for the implementation of their plans due to the lack of clear principles of game mechanics. Its peculiarity is that it is devoid of conventions and all WT players are initially in the most equal conditions. This is what will attract players with less experience in online PvP games to the game. Well, lovers of history and connoisseurs of authentic military equipment in the form of this game will have an excellent opportunity to touch the objects of their passion.
Outcome. World of Tanks and War Thunder are two very different and very similar games at the same time. Each gives the player what he did not get in the other. They are not without their shortcomings. But the developers of World of Tanks compensate for them with vast experience and knowledge of the way to the player's heart, and the creators of War Thunder - with novelty and a completely different approach to the seemingly already known gameplay concept. This is what allows these two great games to complement each other and bring much-needed variety to the leisure of every gamer.
General comparison from afar.
War Thunder was created by Gaijin Entertainment in 2012. Initially, the game was positioned as an online combat simulator on military aircraft. At the moment, the game has up to two hundred thousand active players. World of Tanks was created by Wargaming two years earlier than its competitors. At first glance, this is not such a long time, but in fact, enough time to bite off all the most delicious from a niche cake. Now about a million people play this game at the same time during the periods of the greatest discounts, promotions and other attractive events. Not so long ago, a record was set in a million with something there. At the same time, the game is expanding for consoles and the Western market, in particular for the United States.
All this was said in order to give a sober assessment. It can be seen that the contestants compete in different weight categories. However, despite this, War Thunder performed well. By the way, both games were created by the efforts of Russian companies, although World of Tanks, after all, was created by a Belarusian company, but in fairness, we note that Wargaming is the same Belarusian company as Electronic Arts is Canadian.
visual component.
The graphics in both games look good. Actually, it is this area that causes the greatest number of holivars between fans of both projects. Well, let's leave here our non-binding opinion. There is no point in arguing that the creators of War Thunder are using a more modern engine. The game came out two years later and that says it all. It's like when your parents buy you a Dendy with 8 bits, and you will be the coolest in the yard, after which, a year later, your neighbor Vasya, who envied you with wild envy, took and bought a Sega with 16 bits. In a more modern projection, you can give an example with phone models: either you buy and start using it earlier, or you wait and buy something more modern.
Let's not hide, there is an opinion that War Thunder looks much better. Shots are perfectly implemented in the game, the vehicles burn and explode perfectly, and the tanks themselves do not give the impression of a tank model spinning in one place, while the earth with all its relief rotates under it. In War Thunder, everything doesn't look great, but it's noticeably better. The trees here look like trees rather than a flat bunch of pixels, shadows are cast by almost all objects here, and everything that happens on the screen is quite reminiscent of a real tank battle. At the same time, the graphics in World of Tanks are more ascetic. However, this does not prevent fans from playing the game, just as it does not prevent them from playing the insanely outdated Counter Strike 1.6 so far. The graphic designers of WoT have achieved that the picture, although full of many clearly cardboard objects cut out of plywood with a jigsaw, is generally perceived as such a picture is simpler. It is easier to fight on it. What can I say if the players themselves twist the graphics to a minimum so that the enemy can be seen in the grass, so that the ping is lower, etc.
sound component.
The sound in War Thunder is monotonous and after a while it just starts to put pressure on the ears. The monotonous rattling of the tank obviously does not color the game. At the same time, in World of Tanks, sound is in order. No wonder the developers ran around museums, visited reconstructions and watched the chronicle. In War World of Tanks, the tank growls as it should, shoots as it should, and all other sounds not only do not interfere, but also add a lot of atmosphere. In general, in this round, WoT definitely takes revenge for not the best performance in the “graphics” contest.
Realism.
War Thunder and World of Tanks are tank battle simulators for real gourmets and connoisseurs, so no arcade is appropriate here: only maximum realism on the verge of brutal prose of life. Who does not agree, welcome to the arcade, children's Tanki Online.
Physics in games flows smoothly from the capabilities of the engine. The first thing that catches your eye is that in War Thunder there is a feeling that you are in control of a hefty armored fool with all the ensuing consequences. In World of Tanks, this impression is somewhat blurred, to convey the heaviness of the tank, its mass, sluggishness, or vice versa, the maneuverability of light tanks was realized, although not bad, but not realistic enough. If you say the words of Sklifosovsky, then "I do not believe."
In War Thunder, the tank has momentum. Having accelerated, it will not work to slow down quickly, with a sharp turn you can roll over, and you can completely keep silent about various obstacles. In World of Tanks, this is not very good at all. Feels arcade, even if you crack.
Game process.
The most important thing in the game, of course, is the gameplay, which naturally consists of sound, graphics, mechanics, as well as what has no specific name and is defined by the general term "interesting". So, let's see what our contestants have with interesting gameplay.
War Thunder compensates for the relative lack of experience and green youth with the freshness of solutions, novelty of the gameplay, excellent graphics and equal opportunities for everyone. World of Tanks experimented a lot and eventually settled on solving the problem of attracting the maximum number of players to the game. As a result, the entire gameplay was built in such a way that the difficulty threshold was not very high, and both children and adult uncles could play the game without complaining, despite the fact that the game is too primitive and tends to simplify some points.
War Thunder and World of Tanks are like an apple and a pear, a nectarine and a peach: you can't figure out what is more interesting to play. This is just the case when taste and color are an excellent reason for scuffle. It's fun to play both games. In World of Tanks, you will be pleased with the mass of tactics that can be used in battle, the abundance of interrelationship issues in the team and the need to be able to calculate the situation. In War Thunder, you will be offered a more realistic experience. Those who are most demanding of tank realism will feel the real tank battle with all its quirks more strongly here. In general, we believe that this round of the competition ended in a draw.
Administration attitude.
Not so much a rating round as a comparison round. War Thunder has a more loyal administration that forgives players for things that would get banned forever in World of Tanks. Although, of course, this is not an axiom and there are exceptions. As for World of Tanks, totalitarianism reigns in the game. Feel free to ask sensitive questions on the forum, and any identified attempts to transfer the account to a third party are stopped by the ban of the account. The War Thunder admins cannot afford this and are pursuing a less harsh policy, although, again, who will run into whom.
Donation attitude.
Well, and, probably, the most scandalous and most taboo topic is donation in the game: do you need to pay to play comfortably and how much to pay.
In general, both games are announced as free-2-play, which, in principle, they are. But in both games, a standard mechanism is implemented, when on an entry-level vehicle you feel like a fully accomplished citizen, you play comfortably and watch with satisfaction your replenishing wallet, then at high levels, either fight or go into the red. At this stage, there is a chance to expect a crowd of protesters, proving that there is no need to “crack”, that “I play and don’t go into the minus”, that “you just need to play better”. That’s how it is, but on average it turns out that without a donation it’s still hard.
For example, in World of Tanks you can comfortably drive vehicles of tier 6-7, no more. On the eighth, the money simply starts to flow through your fingers, and on the maximum tenth, the game silver simply spills out into the abyss, at the bottom of which a black all-sucking hole spins. Darkness! Therefore, those who do not want to pay have to keep a couple of tanks of the 5th level, which, like that man, can feed both the master and the general. Otherwise, either pay for a premium account and play without worries, or buy premium vehicles and make more money on them.
In War Thunder, the problem is similar, but if in World of Tanks the developers simply deprive you of money, then in War Thunder the developers also slow down your development in air branches, but in general, oddly enough, in War Thunder the donation pressure is felt less, even after the release of the scandalous and unloved patch 1.37. when the creators of the game made it clear that they created their project for the sake of money, and not so that some schoolboy could spend an evening or two boringly.
You can play without a donation here and there, but War Thunder has a slight advantage, which the creators of the game, I'm sure, would gladly refuse: their audience is about two hundred thousand, or even less. There are noticeably more than a million in World of Tanks. It is not known whether it is worth talking about superiority by an order of magnitude or only five times, but the fact remains: World of Tanks is old, cool, well-known and its creators can afford to tighten the screws, but War Thunder is doing worse. It got to the point that after the next tightening of the screws, the developers were forced to make, albeit small, but still concessions, which World of Tanks has not done in life and will not do in the next few years, because there are no prerequisites. The struggle for the market is absent as a class.
As a result, we can say that donating in War Thunder is less heavy, less intrusive and more attractive than in World of Tanks, where you have to either pay or spend time rolling money on tanks of the fifth level, or simply not drive something, above level 7. Although, in fairness, we note that both there and there you can play without donation.
Now there are several computer games in which you can participate in online tank battles. Two games war thunder and world of tanks are fighting for the leading positions. But which game is better, and how do they differ in general. In this article, we will do a little comparison of war thunder or world of tanks.
World Of Tanks
WoT appeared in 2010, at the moment it is played by more than 1 million people. Maybe WoT loses on graphics, but in sound effects it has no equal. The creators of the game went through all the exhibitions of tanks and managed to record the real sounds of engines and cannon shots. Sound effects evoke a certain realism, it seems as if you are in a real battle. Also, World of Tanks is a lighter game, it can be played by both adults and children at the same time, without complaining about the simplicity of the gameplay.War Thunder
War Thunder appeared a little later in 2012, about 200 thousand players play on it. However, it has a more modern engine. The game clearly draws technology, the world around, buildings have clear contours, in general, War Thunder is made a little better than its old competitor. Of course, the computer must also be more powerful, and high Internet speeds will not interfere. In terms of realism of battles, War Thunder wins WoT a little, this is due to the realism of the sluggishness of tanks, when climbing a mountain, you feel how the engine is running to its fullest, and when a projectile hits, the tank is torn as if for real. War Thunder can be called a more difficult game, if you have no experience, no powerful tank will make you a professional. What to choose?
In general, in comparing war thunder or world of tanks the first place is occupied by the younger War Thunder. It has great combat realism, a good engine, and excellent drawing of the terrain and tanks. In World of Tanks, you should pay attention to the sound component and the ease of combat. If you want to participate in realistic battles, then choose the winner, for others, WoT is perfect.
